ADULT: Wingspan - 25 - 40mm. A wonderful moth that rests with all shiny creamy and brown wings exposed. The wings have a pinkish-pearl like lustre and really are a subtle delight. There are darker wavy cross-lines and one third and two thirds. CHRYSALIS: Overwinters underground in this stage. The chrysalis is long and dark. LARVA: The smooth, green caterpillars feed on Nettle but will use Meadowsweet and Goosegrass as alternatives. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light and easily disturbed from foodplant through the day. HABITAT: Found usually in gardens, hedgerows and flowery meadows. FLIGHT PERIOD: June to September. STATUS: Common throughout. |
